Avocado Mango Halo Halo Recipe

Cebu Blogger: Since 2005, one of the many blog posts I have written are all about homemade recipes of food I ate during the day or perhaps, food reviews and some random rants about my previous employer (insert evil smirk). So today, I’m sharing with you a family recipe from my mom. Her famous Avocado Mango Halo Halo recipe. Ooops, I might be exposing a family secret here. LOL That’s ok, I won’t even tell you the exact secret ingredient until you finish reading this post. It’s a personal preference I guess from my mom that she decided to add it to the mix. I can share it with you but only if you have read this piece. I will be giving the secret code to you at the end of this post. I just want to throw in a bit of fun here. So, obey!

When I was a kid, we grew avocados in our own backyard. My mom whom I adored for her cooking prowess managed to prepare our favorite halo halo as a typical dessert during Sundays. Since then, it’s been my favorite and up to this day, still reminiscing about my mom’s special halo halo.

Now, I’m living on my own. So every time avocados are in season, I won’t hesitate to revisit my childhood memories by recreating this halo halo mix. Let me share with you this Avocado Mango Halo Halo recipe.

 

Ingredients:

4 Avocados (regular size)

3 Ripe Mangoes

2 Ripe Bananas

1 Evaporated Milk (370 ml)

1/4 cup Condensed Milk

2 tbsp pure and raw honey (wild)

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

26 g Crushed Mr. Chips (you can’t use other chips)

1 tbsp (secret ingredient to be revealed)

 

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the bowl or any container where you mix all the ingredients.
  2. Peel the bananas and slice into pieces.
  3. Slice the ripe mangoes into cubes.
  4. Slice the avocados into cubes.
  5. Put all fruits in a bowl but don’t mix them yet.
  6. Add the evaporated milk (just 1/2 cup this time), condensed milk, and honey. Mix it gracefully and slowly.
  7. Add the vanilla extract, the remaining evaporated milk. Keep mixing gracefully.
  8. Add the “secret ingredient”
  9. Sprinkle the crushed chips.
  10. Chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Ready for serving.

 

Serving size: 4-5 persons

Of course, using different brands of milk, honey, and even the chips could definitely affect the taste of it. But generally, you will have a very yummilicious dessert. We have a favorite evaporated milk and condensed milk. I often use Alpine or Carnation. It’s what my mom used ever since. And it’s the taste that I wanted. That’s a revelation. For the condensed milk, my fave is liberty condensada. For the honey, I always use raw and pure honey. I don’t like those very commercially packed bottles sold in groceries stores. There’s a BIG difference in taste! Swear! For the chips, well, you can never go wrong with Mr. Chips. And nothing else. Don’t bother asking. LOL. So, I guess you are ready for the secret ingredient?
